adidas Snapshot is a training tool for soccer players (or football players in my native tongue). After some setting up, it can use your phone’s camera to record a kick and then analyze how fast the ball was traveling – providing the conditions for the recording are good.
Bend it like Beckham… or just punt it
First off let me point out, it is really hard to test an app designed to see how hard you can kick a ball in an office environment. And adidas Snapshot struggles to assess kicks from videos because usually the angle is wrong or not fixed. But, in the one decent test we managed, it worked well.
Getting that shot was tough however, as we had to hold the phone at the right angle and in good lighting for the app to recognize the ball. Certainly this would be easier in most real soccer training scenarios, but as a casual tool for the purely curious, it proves less convenient.
Record your record
If you are training adidas Snapshot will prove a valuable aid, giving you the chance to see how your power is increasing. All you have to do is follow the on screen prompt on how - making sure the lighting is right, entering whether the kick will be left or right footed, getting the kicker to line up their shot correctly, making sure the camera is aligned correctly, and framing the ball so it is the right size in the view finder.
Oh, and if you though that that last sentence was too long - or you had forgotten the point by the time you have reached the end - then you have some idea of how using this adidas Snapshot will feel if the end result isn’t important to you.
A valuable training aid
adidas Snapshot is a very specific tool, for a specific audience who have the time for its foibles. If you are downloading it as a curio you will probably be disappointed but, for soccer players of all ages and abilities who are in training, this is a useful and inexpensive way to learn more about your game.
